PANTHERS BEAT MT. ST. JOE FOR BCL CHAMPIONSHIP

MARCH 5, 2008

And then there were eight…….no my eyes weren’t playing tricks on me…..there were eight opponents standing in the way of victory….five had on the MSJ uniforms and three wore the black and white.  This isn’t sour grapes, because we won, but it was obvious that we had to beat more than the other team.  Watch the replay on Comcast this weekend and you will see what I mean.  Sean was mauled every time he got the ball and the most egregious call was in the fourth quarter when they called the fourth foul on RJ when he was nowhere near the play and Wayne Sparrow clearly fouled the MSJ player.  This was a key point in the game because our point guard goes out again and MSJ was trapping and pressing.  I also wonder why an African American ref wasn’t scheduled for the game.  It would have been nice for our players to see someone who looks like them.

Oh well, the rant is over now and I can sit back and enjoy the win.  The team overcame losing RJ Williams, our speedy point guard, for the entire first half.  Others stepped up…….mainly Sean Mosley, who took over the point guard duties and still managed to score 35 points and grab 9 rebounds.  Wayne Sparrow had 12 points, with a couple of huge threes and “New York” scored 5 points and had 9 boards.  Greg Lewis  played Henry Sims tough and had 5 rebounds and Donte Holmes came off the bench and scored a quick five points when we needed it.  And our Energizer Bunny, Donald Washington had seven rebounds and three steals and seemed to grab every loose ball there was.

It was a great win against a very good team.  New York and Wayne Sparrow made the All Tournament team and Sean Mosley was the MVP.  Sean came in with a BCL Championship and MVP and went out the same way.  It was fitting for Coach Wells to end his BCL career with a victory.  He deserves all the accolades.  Now for the Alhambra………next Thursday evening at 7:30 we play Roman Catholic from Philly.  Good luck team!!!!!!!!!!
