PANTHERS LOSE TO T.C. IN OVERTIME IN MIAA SEMIS

FEBRUARY 20, 2008

I am still wondering how we lost this game!!!  Up by 9 at the beginning of the fourth quarter, we were on cruise control.  Jimmy Hamilton had a huge fourth quarter with nine points and three boards.  All we had to do was run out the clock.

Yet with three seconds remaining, Devin Spence hit a three to tie the game.  He had three defenders around him so it wasn’t as if he was open.  I thought to myself, we should have fouled them and forced them to make free throws and then we would have had the ball.  But no one expected that shot since we were defending the perimeter well.

You could feel the momentum swing as we went into overtime and I had a bad feeling.  The Owls were hyped and they went on to defeat us by four.  Sean Mosley had a big game with 23 points and 13 rebounds.  Donald Washington chipped in with 10 points and 8 boards.  We played well, working our offense and playing hard nosed defense.  Somehow in the fourth quarter we let the lead slip away and the Owls hit several three pointers to get them back in the game.  It was a tough loss for the young Panthers and the Owls went on to defeat Mt. St. Joe for the MIAA title.

Next is the BCL Tournament which begins on Monday.  Let’s hope we have better luck there.
