LADY PANTHERS AVENGE LOSS TO SETON-KEOUGH and WIN THEIR SIXTH STRAIGHT IAAM CHAMPIONSHIP

February 17, 2008

The packed crowd was a sea of green, expecting Seton-Keough to break the string of championships for St. Frances.  The very young Panthers had something to prove…..avenging their only loss in the A Conference this season.  Kandice Green was at full strength and probably a little miffed at being snubbed by the All Star voting.  Whatever it was, this was a different team than the one who struggled with Spalding on Friday.

The sophomores came to play and to prove themselves and they did just that.  It was a game for the ages……one that you hated to see anyone lose.  The defense was so ferocious that there was only one three point shot made and few were taken because there were no open looks.

The difference came down to free throws.  The Panthers made fourteen out of twenty and Deanna Harmon scored her only two points of the day on free throws in overtime.  There was a team full of heroes today.  “Little Mama” got it going in the fourth quarter when the Panthers were down by seven.  She scored ten points in that period, some on breakaway baskets.  Our lone senior Kandice Green was on point with 14 points and five rebounds.  Tasia Bristow snared nine boards and Deanna Harmon six as the guards crashed the boards.  Raizel Benn, Friday’s heroine had nine boards and played great defense against the giant Gators.

The sophomores stepped up and proved their mettle and kept alive the string of IAAM CHAMPIONSHIPS which now numbers SIX IN A ROW.

CONGRATULATIONS TO COACH SHELTON AND THE TEAM!!!!!!
