GIBBONS NIPS PANTHERS BY THREE

January 15TH, 2008

The Panthers let one get away Tuesday night and a determined Gibbons team won 69-66.  A last minute desperation three by Sean Mosley was off target to end the game.  The Panthers fell behind by ten in the second quarter, a quarter with Sean on the bench because of foul trouble.  Things changed for the Panthers when the Gibbons coach got a technical foul early in the game.  That seemed to spur his team on and catch the refs attention.  At the half the Panthers were charged with ten fouls and Gibbons five, yet when a Gibbons parent complained to the Commissioner of the referees, he had a talk with them at the half.

Things only got worse for the Panthers as Sean picked up two more fouls and played sparingly in the third and fourth quarters.  Sean Mosley still finished the game with 17 points and four rebounds with Gibbons players draped all over him.  No fouls though…  Wayne Sparrow was on fire and kept us in the game with five three pointers in the first half.  Gibbons adjusted during halftime and limited his looks.  R.J. Williams came through in the fourth quarter with all ten of his points.  He added seven assists and two steals.  Dante Holmes had a good game and was more aggressive going to the basket with 13 points.  The unsung hero was Donald Washington who came in and stopped their point guard from scoring by playing lock down defense on him.  At the end of the day, we came up short.  Losing to Gibbons at home will come back to haunt us I’m afraid.  We play McDonogh tomorrow night away and we need a win there.  Come out and support your Panthers.
