PANTHERS UPSET BY LOYOLA 60-46 January 4th, 2008 The Panthers came out flat in front of an enthusiastic packed gym at Loyola High School. All the energy was in the stands during the first half when the Panthers got behind by 18 points. They came out fired up in the second half and made a furious comeback and actually tied the game before Loyola put it away with three three pointers and some free throws.
Maybe it was the pressure of Coach Wells’ 500th win, or playing in the Loyola gym where we have lost three straight years, but the Panthers were not sharp in the first half. Loyola played good defense and a slow down offense which made it difficult for us to run. They were physical and seemed to get to every loose ball.
Sean Mosley led the team with 21 points, 17 of them in the second half. He added seven rebounds and kept his composure while being “mauled” by Loyola’s defense. “New York” added 10 points and 10 rebounds and was a real force on the boards. We played the game without our center Greg Lewis who is recovering from an ankle injury. Donald Washington came off the bench for 4 points and 6 rebounds and helped out by playing his usual solid defense.
This game will be good for us in the future and should make us realize that we can’t be complacent.
