Panther Baseball Receives Some Southern Hospitality

The Panthers’ trip to North Carolina, April 3-7, 2007, proved to be a very valuable experience for all involved.  Upon their arrival in Durham, after checking into their hotel accommodations, April 3, the Panthers traveled to the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and toured the, state of the art, Dean Dome.   Later on that evening, the Panthers were special quests at the UNC vs. UNC-Wilmington game, at UNC.  On April 4, they visited and toured North Carolina University Central, and enjoyed a southern cuisine lunch of fried chicken and fixings on campus.  Later on in the day, at 4:15 p.m., the Panthers took on the Cavaliers of Cummings High School, Burlington, and were defeated in a loop-sided game, 19-6.  Jamal Brunson, Reggie Wallace, and Davin Hill had two hits each to pace the Panthers.

On April 5, in the first of two games, the Panthers took on River Mill Academy Jaguars, of Burlington, at 3:30 p.m., and were able to squeak out a 10-9 win, in an 8 inning game.  Eric Hamilton and Hill, lead the offense, with three hits each.  Hill got the win after relieving Brunson in the 5th inning.  In the second game, at 5:30 p.m., once again, the Panthers got a rude awakening from the Cavaliers.  Bodenheimer of the Cavaliers put on a stellar pitching and hitting performance to slam the Panthers, in a complete game performance, 13-1 win.  He struck out 8, gave up 4 hits and had two doubles, two home runs, and 5 RBI.  Reggie Wallace knocked in the only run for the Panthers, with a sharply hit single.

On Friday, April 6, they visited Saint Augustine University, Raleigh, NC, and watched a baseball game between SAU and conference opponent.  Later, they enjoyed a few hours at Frankie’s Adventure Park, a trip to the mall [with dinner], and subsequently prepared for their return trip to Baltimore.
