Charles G. Tildon, Jr. Annual Scholarship Award
made to St. Frances Academy

April 12, 2005

Each year in September an annual Charles G. Tildon, Jr. Scholarship Award in the amount of $2,500 will be given to a St. Frances Academy graduate who is enrolled in the nursing program at Coppin State University.

This scholarship award is made by Verna Brinson, ESq. as a tribute to honor the dedicated and faithful leadership and service accomplishments of Charles G. Tildon, Jr. to the city of Baltimore and the state of Maryland in the areas of civil rights, education, economic development and for being a pioneer to champion the cause of affordable housing and health care services for all families especially the poor and near poor.

Ms. Brinson wrote Sr. John Francis Schilling the following:

"I was inspired to give the gift to your Academy after reading that Camille Cosby awarded your high school $2 million last week.  It was good that the media gave coverage to her generosity.  As more people learn about St. Frances Academy and its successes in helping students to achieve academically and go on to college more people will be willing to help.

Like Mr. Tildon, I too am a devout Catholic.  I am only a vessel of clay being used by God to bless and help your ministry.  Please feel free to share with others in the press and other places about my gift in Mr. Tildon's name and how Mrs. Cosby made me aware of the need to help your students.

I pray that God daily support all of your needs and those of the Academy according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.  God is a faithful Creator.  He always provides."
